Before I entered the world of little one fashion I was a missionary. I spent my years and days sharing about Jesus, all while spending time every day with Him. It was what I lived for and yearned for.
My favorite thing about that time was when I had coffee dates with God in whatever Country I found myself in. Just me, some amazing coffee (or maybe ok coffee), my Bible, journal and God. I would spend time pouring my heart out to God, sharing my hopes and dreams, and then I would listen for what He wanted to tell me.
At some point during this time the Lord said to me, “Sarah, you are my masterpiece.” I knew this didn’t only apply to me but to everyone of us here on this earth. Yet it touched me and remained with me, in fact oftentimes throughout the weeks, months, and years following that conversation; I would hear the same phrase from God, “You are my masterpiece.”
When I thought about that phrase I would often think of the greatest pieces of art treasured by mankind, such as the Mona Lisa. I realized a true masterpiece is irreplaceable and treated like the beauty and treasure that it is, it is protected and cherished for the beauty it possesses. So if these are the characteristics of a masterpiece, and God says I am His masterpiece, doesn’t that mean He thinks the same thing about me?
When God looks at each of us he sees us as His masterpiece. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” We are his beautiful creation and He marvels at and loves the inner and outer complexities that make us uniquely us.
He sees the inner workings of our heart and mind. He knows what makes us come alive and what fills us with anger and sadness. He embraces our differences because He created us uniquely different from one another. Each of us showing and representing a different part of who our creator actually is.
Some carry a heart geared towards great compassion. Others carry a heart full of justice. Some may be quiet and reserved, while others are loud and easily put themselves out there. The funny thing is often from infancy we can see each different attribute in each individual child. We may say “oh this girl definitely knows what she wants and is determined to get it,” or “he is such a laid back baby.” So how is it that we were wired different from birth?
Pretty simple in my opinion, God made us each uniquely different. He created us in our mothers womb and thought about each single aspect of us. How we would look, what makes us tick, our likes and dislikes; he put us together and created His Masterpiece.
Maybe you don’t feel like a masterpiece right now, if I’m honest I don’t always either. Yet that doesn’t change the fact that we are. We are loved, we are cherished, and we are protected by our creator. He marvels at what He created. He knows each of our highs and lows in life and is there to either celebrate or support us because He is a good creator.
When my mission days were put on hold and I started into the world of little one fashion, I had to think of a name for this new business. Out of everything I came up with nothing compared to Little Masterpiece Creations. Why? Because when I think of each little one that gets to wear my clothes, I think that they are each a little masterpiece created by God our Father.
